It's not me, it's you- a track by track review

TRACK ONE- EVERYONES AT IT
This controversial, outspoken pop album opens with the loud, opinionated, Everyone's at it- in which Allen accuses everyone of being on drugs. She is saying that todays generation is being taken over by illegal substances, (and legal ones) and attempts to open the publics eyes to this problem. I think its a great way to open the album- it introduces Lily very well, as it demonstrates the kind of attitude and message she likes to get across in songs.

TRACK TWO- THE FEAR
In The Fear, Lily sarcastically states things people do to be famous- using lines such as, "I'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless, cause everyone knows that's how you get famous." I liked that she used the ironic tactic- saying things she would do, when she's really mocking the media.

TRACK THREE- NOT FAIR
Not Fair lets us hear about Lily's boyfriend. He's sweet, empathetic, patient- and terrible in bed. I like the tune but I don't think the song writing is as up to scratch as it could be- it sounds a little bratty and immature, especially in this line-"Its not fair and I think you're really mean, I think you're really mean, I think you're really mean, I think you're really mean." While I don't skip it on my ipod, it isn't a favourite.

TRACK FOUR- 22
22 is a pretty spunky song with a pretty depressing story. It tells the story of a woman- "when she was 22 her future looked bright, but shes nearly 30 now and she's out every night." It tells you about how a woman gave up on her plans, and prostitution is implied- "she's got an alright job but its not a career\whenever she thinks about it, it brings her to tears\cause all she wants is a boyfriend, she gets one night stands." Lily's vocals are amazing on this track, and it may be one of the best on the album.

TRACK FIVE- I COULD SAY
While some people would say "I could say" is a filler song, I see it as a perfect moving on song. It speaks of getting out of a relationship, and realising how much better off you are- "since you've gone its as if the whole wide world is my stage\now you've gone its like I've been let out of my cage."
Its also really fun to belt out.

TRACK SIX- BACK TO THE START
Back to the start is rumoured to be about Lily's sister. It's apologising for always hating and taunting the recipient of the song- though it felt like it might have a layer of sarcasm to it as well. I think its a really fun song, and I often have it on repeat.

TRACK SEVEN- NEVER GONNA HAPPEN
Never gonna happen is pretty much the Lily Allen version of Demi Lovatos "Something that we're not"- although this song is harsher. (And it would have to be the other way around as Demi's song was much more recent.) While being very harsh and kind of b*tchy, its actually great to tidy your room to.

TRACK EIGHT- F*CK YOU
I'm guessing this is one of Lily's most controversial songs, especially as it was aimed at George W Bush. Its like the PERFECT song to listen to when you are angry- just don't sing it to anyone unless you're EXTREMELY p*ssed as it has a line saying, "It's people like you that need to be slew." You see, 99% of why I like Lily Allen is because she says what she thinks, no matter how harsh it is. So of course I love this song- explicit as it is.

TRACK NINE- WHO'D HAVE KNOWN
'Who'd have known' portrays the very start of a relationship- when things are still a bit awkward, and you're not totally sure what's going on in the relationship. Many (including me) believe in the line 'today you accidentally called me baby' you can hear Lily smile in the end of the line, as she sings. It's a really cute and realistic song, and I adore it.

TRACK TEN- CHINESE
This song, believe it or not, is about Lilys mum.
There was much suspicion about it being about a boyfriend but Lily confirmed it is in fact about her mum, and while the song is sweet, it's a bit boring and lacking the spark most Lily Allen songs have.

TRACK ELEVEN- HIM
While I've only heard this one once, I can hear that Lily is pretty much questioning, if there is a God, what does he think of how us humans act, and what would God do if he were here? Does God think we act how he thinks is right? How much does he been pay attention to us, anyway? While it isn't the best on the album by far, it is still a pretty good song, and it opened up some questions for me too.

TRACK TWELVE- HE WASN'T THERE
'He wasn't there' is about Lily's (now) husband, and how he wasn't around much, how he wasn't there when she needed him. Sometimes it's hard to tell if Lily is being sarcastic and this is an example of this, for example when she used the line 'I'm so pleased I never gave up on him
Oh well, you wouldn't believe some of the things that he did
And everyone said you have to give him some time
And I'm glad that I gave it to him because now everything's fine'.

While it doesn't seem so sarcastic when used with the rest of the song, you never know with Lily Allen. I don't get sarcasm anyway! XD I like the tune of the song and the music at the start is the bomb.

Overall:
'It's not me, it's you' is an often controversial, always honest account of Lily's thoughts on pretty much everything. I think it's a really good album, and definitely represents Lily as a person well.
